5Makes Life a Lot Easier
By Lithuanian Cook
We are from a European background and our grandparents left us with many recipes that require food grinding. Rather than using the manually operated grinder they left us, we searched to find one that would make life easier. The Weston works great! We use it for grinding meats for patties and making sausages, preparing potatoes for various recipes, slicing vegetables, shredding. The quality and performance of this product exceeds our expectations and the service we experienced with Amazon is 100% satisfactory.

5Good Meat Grinder
By Dee Emswiler
I have never used an electric meat grinder before, just the hand cranked models, but besides taking up a place on the countertop is just wonderful. Plenty of power to go through even frozen meat. I am actually learning to make sausage since it is so easy to use. Only thing that has happened that I did not expect is that the chrome parts were discolored when I washed them in the dishwasher to sterilize.

5Great Grinder if you Follow the Instructions
By R. Thomasson
I am a home sausage maker and have used a mixer attachment to grind meat and stuff casings. The Nesco FG-300 400 Watt Food Grinder is on the lower end of grinders as price goes, but it works like a champ. It has good power and doesn't tend to bog down. The feed chute is large and well designed and holds enough meat for a decent batch of sausage. Be sure to prepare the meat as specified in the instructions before grinding. If you are grinding fatty meat you may have to stop once in a while and clean out the auger. Highly recommended.

Editorial Reviews

Engineered by Waring, this versatile meat grinder helps you ensure that the food you cook is as fresh as possible. Suitable for home use, the machine grinds beef for tacos, turkey for burgers, and pork for sausage, as well as non-meat items like vegetables and fruit. Powered by a 300-watt motor, the grinder has a durable die-cast metal hopper and brushed stainless-steel housing. It comes with three separate cutting plates to let you set the grind for the task at hand. Use the fine plate for baby food and hamburger, the medium plate for relishes and soup meat, and the coarse plate for vegetables or chunky ground. Operation of the grinder is simple, and the clearly marked on/off panel includes a reverse function that helps retrieve clogged food. The reverse toggle must be held down so you cannot accidentally leave it engaged. Waring also includes a small and a large sausage attachment for transferring blended meat and spices to sausage casings. Although the grinder may not have the hard-wearing qualities of all-metal models, the plastic used in its construction is both spare and durable. Waring includes a plastic food pusher and a recipe booklet, as well as a 5-year motor warranty and a 1-year warranty on the appliance. Cutting plates must be washed by hand. --Emily Bedard

5So Far, So Good
By Michael Long
Now I've only had this a week and so far I've had great results. I realize that it's a rebuilt machine, but I'm not grinding everyday. So for me the cost was perfect. And what I had it do has worked great. I'm very pleased so far. If I was using this everyday and pushing hundreds of pounds of meat thru the thing, It might be a different story, but for home user that makes sausage once a month or it gets used one a week I think it's great for the cost.

Great Meat Grinder at first, then started to slip, now unusable
By Whatscool
I have had it for only one week, so far so good. Even though it is re-manufactured, it looks almost like new, and works great. It's not as noisy as some reviewers said. Besides, you only need to turn it on for 5-10 min every time. So the noise is acceptable.

I am adding more comments now after using it for 5 weeks (about once a week)...
The driving shaft and Feed Screw start to slip. The shaft is hex-shaped (instead of square-shaped), which is a not-long-lasting poor design for such a small size. Once it starts to slip, it can only become worse and worse. I am afraid it will become unusable soon.

8 months later, totally unusable.

I cannot believe this is pro quality. I will not buy anything from WARING.

5Runs great, looks great!
By NYC-Gorodok
Powerful, grinds meat without any problems. Looks as nice in real life as it is in picture. Not quiet, but, having experience with different grinders before, I think the powerful ones can not be quiet. Recommend it!

5Very pleased!
By Smitty
Hello,

We have been looking at grinders with the thought of making homemade sausages for a while. When we got our tax return this year we decided to go for it. I decided to go look at grinders at Bass Pro Shop with the intention of buying a manual hand cranked grinder. Someone else was in the same section looking at some sausage making things and we got to talking. He said that he had this grinder and it has worked very well for them. I had thought perhaps if we got an electric grinder we might go for a bigger one, but he said this should be enough for what we want to do. So I purchased it. We have made bratwurst, italian sausages, and breakfast links so far, but made each of those a few times as they are our favorites. We couldn't be happier with the grinder, it cleans up pretty easy and after I clean and dry it I spray some food grade silicone spray to protect the parts. My wife and I usually do it together, one person feeding the meat into the grinder and the other controling the sausage/casing part. I've used it alone and though a little more difficult, I was able to do it all myself and probably with a little practice it would be just as easy, maybe just a little more time consuming. I recommend this grinder though I haven't tried any others, I've hear that LEM has good customer service, though haven't needed them, and the grinder seems very solid (the whole reason we decided to skip the kitchenaid attachment).

Hope this helps! Cheers!

5Can't go wrong with this one, great grinder!
By J. Merolla
When I was shopping for a meat grinder, I first checked the reviews. This one didn't have many, but they were good, and since it is made of stainless steel, I decided to purchase it.

Since I have only used it once so far, I can't comment on longevity but it did a great job. I primarily purchased it to grind beef for hamburger, as I feel you never know what's in commercially packaged ground beef and I like my burgers rare. I ground about 12 pounds of meat twice and it never hesitated. The instructions tell you not to touch the grinder until it has cooled down but it got BARELY lukewarm when I used it. It might get hotter if you are processing an entire deer or something similar, but I don't think it would be a problem.

I was planning on keeping it in a closet, but I found a permanent place on my counter for it. However, if you need to move it, it is not THAT heavy (about 32 pounds) and most people could pick it up. This is a fairly large appliance, so you do need some room.

What really amazed me is that the motor sounds similar to the one in my $2,000.00 Hobart mixer. Not all that loud and strong and steady. As another reviewer mentioned, I got my meat ready ahead of time, so when I was ready to grind, all I had to do was feed the meat. This grinder works extremely fast, so you wouldn't want to be cutting up meat while grinding. I also followed the instructions and put my meat in the freezer for about an hour to get it very cold-some parts were partially frozen but that did no harm. Fast and easy to use-couldn't ask for more!

Clean-up was easy and I don't think the cleaning kit that is sold for it is necessary. A standard bottle brush fits inside the grinder housing and if you soak them for a bit, the meat falls out of the holes in the plates, even the one with the smaller holes. Before I disassembled the grinder, I did run a couple of slices of bread through it to help clean out the remaining meat, although there was very little waste.

I do need to order a can of food grade silicone spray, as the instructions tell you to spray all the parts before putting them away. I wasn't aware that I needed this when I ordered the grinder so, for now, I just made sure all of my parts are extremely dry to prevent possible corrosion.

Now that I have the grinder, I am exploring the possibility of making sausage. The burgers came out so good that I am encouraged to try something new. The burgers were very juicy-just have to make sure you don't squeeze them while cooking and don't cook them too long. I even cooked them from frozen and they were excellent. I used a chuck roast and some sirloin steaks (mixed both meats together after the first grind) and didn't trim off any of the fat. You do need some fat for the best burgers. Of course, if you have diet restrictions that limit fat, you can cut off most of the fat but you need to cook the burgers rare, as otherwise, they will be tough and dry.

This grinder has a solid look and feel to it and I think it will last a very long time! Highly recommended!

5Awesome beginner's grinder
By Duke in MN
My daughter won this grinder in a charity raffle, so I didn't pay the full price for it. After using it however, I would say it is definitely worth the asking price. It is extremely well constructed and engineered. It grinds meat like crazy. I have used it to grind many geese that I turned into jerky. I've ground the trimmings of 2 whitetail deer. This grinder will usually take the meat as fast as you can feed it. I learned after the first time that I used it that it is best to cut the meat into strips 1" to 1-1/2" wide before you even start grinding so the machine won't have to wait for you. It seems like the auger is always hungry. When I did my most recent venison trimmings, after prepping the cuts, it only took a few minutes to grind close to 20lbs. I also used the large stuffing tube while I was grinding and packaged the ground venison as I was grinding it, which basically cut the processing time in half. One accessory that I recently purchased but haven't tried yet is the foot pedal power switch. I think it will come in very handy when I am doing the more delicate task of stuffing sausage with the grinder. The #5 is a small unit, but has plenty of power, and with the various plates that are available, should fit the needs of most part-time users and sportsmen like me who just enjoy the process of bringing protein from the woods to the table.

5Good choice..
By Bomin
I ordered this from Amazon and as always arrived before expected. I did a great deal of research before purchasing. Sites that rate grinders agree that the unit should have no plastic gears etc. Also learned that stainless steel blades and plates last 10 times longer than cast iron and this unit had all stainless. There are no plastic parts ( gears, grinder, blades ) I've used this twice and was impressed with the results. I was surprised no one rated this product before me.

Great...while it worked.
By liebms01
I got this grinder as a present two years ago. Worked well the first 10 or so times. I put it away for about a year, and took it out this summer to grind, and it did not work. The motor hummed, and something was happening inside, but the meat was not grinding. Even when trimmed of all visible fat, it would immediately clog up event the biggest filter. I ordered and used new blades, to no avail.

I called customer service, got the usual "Sir, the warranty was only for one year" "Oh its manufactured in China, we can't help with technical issues." Anyway, they refused to yield, and do anything helpful for me (they offered to wave shipping on a motor repair kit [which I would still have to purchase]- I turned that down, explaining I was neither an engineer nor a mechanic.)

So, after two years, and about 10 grinds, I have a completely non-functional grinder on my hands.

Silly me for expecting a manufacturer to stand behind their workmanship.

5Kitchener meat grinder
By Dave Washington
Grinds meat easily. Easy clean-up. Varied grinding plates allow for many textures to different applications of product.
The grinder is a little noisy but considering how fast it grinds meat, this is not a problem.
I chose this model for price and reviews it recieved on a forum I subscribe to. I have not used it to it's full capacity. It grinds too fast to max it out. I think that is a good thing.
I have a verticle stuffer for casings so I probably will not be using the tubes for sausage stuffing.
I would recommend this grinder to a friend.

The item works well. It's too small for larger volumes of material such as 20# as fatigue sets in on the operator. Excellent for making 10 to 15 lb. batches of sausage.

Well. I didn't expect great quality for this money. But I expected that it will work. I think that it's broken by design. It is a nightmare to assemble that. Parts don't seem to fit. After 15 minutes of fighting with it I managed to get it to work. Then grinder has disconnected from engine after 1 minute of work. I tried several times. Instruction doesn't leave much space for mistakes. It just doesn't work. PLEASE, SAVE MONEY, DON"T BUY IT.

Equipped with three stainless-steel cutting plates (fine, medium, and large), the easy-to-use machine makes it possible to grind to different levels of coarseness. It takes two, literally
By Cygalvatron
Automatic is not always better. I used the Kalorik to grind meat and make sausages. It literally takes two people to use this machine. The metal tray kept popping upwards when pushing meat in, never stayed in place. So in turn one person had to guide the meat into the sausage casing as the other held the tray and pushed the meat into the feeder. Feeding the meat in is a chore, strain actually to the point your forearms, wrist, and hands get sore. Worst of all, this nasty grease paste leaked out of the spinner and possibly into my sausages. Had to throw all 15 away unfortunately. Skip this machine and go old fashioned with a manual grinder/feeder.

5Fantastic Grinder
By Phoebe Brent
I bought this grinder because I was tired of using a manual grinder. As soon as we received it, we started to make burger. The burger looked professionally ground. It was so easy and fast. The meat seemed to cut better partially frozen than thawing the meat completely. I would definitely recommend this grinder.

4Pricey, but well-made
By Bill
People shouldn't give an item two stars just because of pricing compared to Kitchenaid. That's not helpful to anyone. I pulled the trigger on this attachment when Amazon had it for $107 shipped. Yes it's a little pricey, but compared to the Kitchenaid grinder for around $60, here's what I can see as the differences for $$ spent:

- It looks like the SM-MG tray appears to be a little larger than the
KA. (You can order a larger tray at add'l expense with the KA).
- The sausage making attachments are included with the Cuisi. (Again
these are not included, but can be ordered separately for the KA).
- The whole main body of the SM-MG Cuisi is cast aluminum or some other
metal, (whereas the KA body looks to be mostly plastic, and appears
smaller).
- The SM-MG attachment gives you three sizes of metal grinding wheels,
whereas the KA I believe gives you only two sizes.
- The SM-MG attachment, just like the Cuisi mixer itelf, has a three-
year warranty. (I believe the KA mixer, and I am assuming the
attachments, only have a one-year warranty).

I hope I have helped to compare apples to apples here. I know that I sound like a Cuisinart "fanboy," but after weighing all of the pros and cons before purchasing a stand mixer for the first time, (and valuing my dollars spent), I went with the Cuisinart, and I have not been disappointed. (Believe me, I really wanted to buy American here, and KA makes a fine product. If they would up their warranty to three years, I wouldn't hesitate to go with Kitchenaid).

You won't be grinding meat for any commercial applications with this unit. It is rather slow, but does the job. (Grinding 5 pounds of meat for sausage took awhile - a good while. I used the directions to put the mixer on speed "5". It was my first time using the attachment, so I didn't think of maybe cranking it up to "6" or so. I'll have to experiment with that. After all, the SM-MG attaches to the "slow" gear outlet).

I hope this review was at least somewhat helpful.

4Good grinder; could be improved
By R. Cane Questions
This grinder is replacing a KA unit that, after 32 years of honest, reliable service, has developed so many cracks in its plastic components that it has lost the ability to remain sanitary.

The Cuisinart unit has a number of advantages: a reasonably large tray, multiple cutting blades, fairly simple mechanism for inserting it into the stand mixer, and a solid metal shaft and housing. It works well, neither faster nor slower than its predecessor. I'm unaccustomed to the fineness of the fine blade, and discovered that it's not alway advantageous to grind as finely as possible. For some purposes (making hot dogs or forced meat, for instance) it's perfect; for a less emulsified texture, it renders the meat too sticky. This is clearly a cook's issue, not a grinder issue.

Two design flaws stand in the way of my giving the grinder 5 stars:

- First, the metal housing is cast aluminum. It is great for avoiding the cracks I found in the plastic equivalent, but it's unwise to put it in the dishwasher (Cuisinart tells you specifically NOT to) because the causticity of dishwasher detergent pits the surfaces of the metal. I would prefer to be able to use a dishwasher to increase the chance of sanitary equipment, and wonder why it would not have been possible to make a dishwasher-safe alloy. Perhaps it would have been cost prohibitive. Purchaser beware: you've got to like using brushes in hot soapy water to keep this grinder clean. On the other hand, the tray component is plastic and easily removable, and it is dishwasher safe. That's the one component I would feel comfortable hand washing, so I can't win.

- Second, the plastic pusher is problematic on a couple of levels. First, it cleverly houses the sausage horns. To be a housing, however, it has to be hollow, and to have a removable cap. Both these characteristics make it less useful as a pusher -- it doesn't deliver as much force as I would like, and I've got to find something to do with the horns while I'm washing the pusher, leading to an improved chance of losing them. Second, it fits too snugly in the barrel of the grinder. If the meat is at all greasy, or you haven't chilled down both the meat and the grinder sufficiently before use, you get a strong suction effect in the barrel. I've found that the pusher is not pushing the meat down forcefully enough, and is sucking some of the remnants back up the barrel. I can solve this easily enough by creating a wooden or metal pusher; but at the price, I shouldn't have to

All in all, I feel this is a well-engineered and cleverly designed piece of equipment that did not go through an adequate amount of end user testing (or pay enough attention to user feedback if it was tested). It would have profited from practicality over cleverness in a few critical run-time use cases.

5I love it!
By Dawn Witt
I used this to make homemade sausage, because we do not like sage in our sausage. I bought pork chops, because it was on sale for $0.99 a pound. The meat grinder was so fast, it ground up one porkchop, before I got the bone cut off the next one.
